Dear Vanguard families of 9th and 10th Grade students,

This year, all Colorado students in 9th and 10th grade will be taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test, or PSAT.  The PSAT is a standardized test that measures critical thinking in reading, writing, and math and also helps prepare students for the SAT in junior year.  The PSAT 10 is also used to help students qualify for the National Merit Scholarship, a national collegiate scholarship that helps many of the top scorers on the test. This year all 9th and 10th Grade students will take the test on
Wednesday, April 11th.

Here is what you can do to help your student to be successful on the PSAT:

1. All students should have created a College Board account in Advisement yesterday.  College Board is the organization that creates and scores the PSAT.  Have students log on to their account at www.collegeboard.org and help them to fill in any missing information for their account.  If they were absent yesterday or did not make an account, work with them to make a College Board account.

2. Have your students create an account on Khan Academy (https://www.khanacademy.org/)  Khan Academy is a very helpful tutoring website that has partnered with College Board to be the official tutoring and practice website for the SAT and PSAT.  Have your students create an account and complete all the diagnostic quizzes.  These quizzes help students to understand certain skills that they excel at and which skills they still need to work on.  It then has articles and videos, as well as practice to help your students improve on their skills.

3. Make sure your students are at school on the day of the test, Wednesday April 11,2018.

If you have any questions, we are happy to help.  Please send any questions or concerns to Alex Reiman (areiman@vanguardclassicalschool.org) or to Angie Keedy (aschendelkeedy@vanguardclassical.org) and we will respond when we can.
