4th Grade Teacher

Ms. Hawkins

My name is Robin Hawkins. I have been at Vanguard Classical School West since 2015. I currently teach 4th grade. I have my bachelors degree in Elementary Education/Special Education. I am married and have five children ranging in age from 24 to 13. We have two dogs named Otis and Blitzen. I love to read, be outside and spend time with my family. My philosophy of education is that all children are unique and need a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Ms. Parra

My name is Monique Parra and I am the 4th grade teacher. I attended California State University of California, Monterrey Bay and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies with a concentration in sustainable communities. During my undergraduate capstone, I worked with fifth grade students to teach them about native plants in the community and the significance plants have to the local ecosystems. I discovered a passion for teaching through this experience. Working with children inspired me to gain working experience in education. I worked for a elementary school in Seaside, CA as an instructional assistant, assistant supervisor, and an after-school program leader. When I moved to Colorado, about a year ago, I became a substitute teacher. I have also been a classroom paraprofessional for a K-8 school in Aurora Public Schools. I then decided to continue my education and earn an Masters of Education with a concentration in environmental education. I chose education because I want children to explore their curiosities and be intrigued about the various subjects they learn through the curriculum. I also want children to learn important life skills that they will need to succeed in life. I believe that every child learns differently and I want to help them learn in their own unique style. My future plans are to enter a teacher preparation program and earn my teacher’s license in science.

Title I Math/Literacy Coach/Interventionist

Ms. Hoesly

I have been teaching for 12 years in grades Kindergarten through Sixth. This year, I am the Title 1 Instructional Coach for Literacy and Mathematics. I have a Master's degree in Policy Studies of Language and Cross Cultural Education; and a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies. Both degrees are from San Diego State University, home of the Aztecs. I am originally from San Diego, however, I have lived in Kerman, Ca, Phoenix, AZ, Grand Canyon, AZ, Carlsbad, Ca, and finally, Littleton, Co. I have been a life coach for third through sixth grade girls, coached swim team, and reading intervention. When I found out that this was a classical school, I was excited to apply. I think that this progression of education is essential for all students. I love working with kids because they bring so much joy to my life. It is fun to see them grow and develop over the course of just one school year. When I am not teaching, I enjoy running, hiking, biking, reading, writing, and exploring the mountains or relaxing on the beach.
