Monday, Aug. 5 is the first day of the 2019-2020 school year for Vanguard Classical Schools, both East and West campuses.
That’s one day earlier than the school start for 1st – 12th graders in the Aurora School District and two weeks earlier than Denver Public Schools that start Monday, Aug. 19.
The National Safety Council (www.nsc.org) cautions drivers to share the road with school buses.
“If you're driving behind a bus, allow a greater following distance than if you were driving behind a car. It will give you more time to stop once the yellow lights start flashing. It is illegal in all 50 states to pass a school bus that is stopped to load or unload children,” warns the NSC, adding that the 10 feet immediately around a school bus is the riskiest for pedestrian and auto accidents.
Never pass a bus from behind or from the front when a bus is stopped to load or unload children.
Stop when the bus red or yellow lights are flashing.
Follow the traffic patterns to load and unload your children at both the East and West Campuses.
